Romantic Summer Wedding at Notley Abbey

28th August 2026 | Notley Abbey, Buckinghamshire

There’s something so special about a late-summer wedding, and Luke and Hannah’s wedding at the beautiful Notley Abbey was the perfect example. With a gorgeous burnt orange colour palette, historic surroundings and a whole day of memories to capture, their wedding on 28th August 2026 was a pleasure to photograph.

The story began at the Dinton Hermit, where Hannah spent the morning getting ready with her bridal party, before moving over to Notley Abbey for the final preparations and Luke’s groom prep. From those first moments of excitement in the morning to their couple portraits and Hannah’s outfit change ahead of the first dance, I had the pleasure of documenting their day as it unfolded.

As a Notley Abbey wedding photographer, it's days like these that remind me why I love what I do. It's not just about creating beautiful photographs, but about capturing the people, the atmosphere and all those little moments that make a wedding completely unique to each couple.

Hannah’s Bridal Preparations at the Dinton Hermit

The morning of a wedding always has its own special atmosphere. There's excitement, anticipation and that lovely feeling that something you've spent months planning is finally here.

For Hannah, the morning began at the Dinton Hermit, surrounded by her bridal party as the final preparations got underway.

I always love photographing this part of a wedding day. It's a chance to capture the story before the ceremony begins, from the finishing touches and carefully chosen details to the laughter, conversations and little moments shared with the people closest to you.

These photographs aren't about creating a perfectly posed scene. They're about remembering how the morning actually felt: the anticipation building, the excitement growing and the realisation that you're about to marry your favourite person.

I also love how much these photographs mean to couples when they look back at their gallery. It's easy to focus on the ceremony and celebrations, but the morning preparations are such an important part of the story, too.

From the Dinton Hermit to Notley Abbey

Once the morning preparations were complete, it was time to head over to Notley Abbey.

There is something lovely about arriving at the venue and seeing everything coming together. After months of planning, all the little details are in place, the excitement is building and the wedding day is beginning to take shape.

Notley Abbey is such a beautiful setting for a wedding, with its historic character and timeless atmosphere. It offers a wonderful backdrop for photographs while still allowing the focus to remain on what matters most: the couple and the people they have brought together to celebrate.

Once at the abbey, Hannah had her final touches before the day continued, while I also captured Luke getting ready.

I love being able to document both sides of a wedding. While one person is putting the finishing touches to their bridal look, the other is experiencing their own anticipation before the ceremony. Together, these moments help tell the complete story of the day.

Luke’s Groom Preparations

Groom preparations are such an important part of a wedding gallery, and I always want to make sure they're given the same attention as the bridal preparations.

For Luke, these were the final moments before the celebrations truly began. The excitement of the day was building, and it was lovely to capture his preparations at Notley Abbey before everything moved into the next chapter.

When couples look back through their wedding photographs, I want them to see the whole story, not just the highlights.

From getting ready in the morning to the ceremony, portraits and evening celebrations, every part of the day deserves its place. These are the photographs that help bring all the memories back, even years later.

A Beautiful Burnt Orange Wedding at Notley Abbey

One of the details that brought Luke and Hannah's wedding together so beautifully was their burnt orange colour palette.

Perfect for a late-August celebration, these rich, warm tones brought a lovely sense of depth and romance to the day. Burnt orange is such a beautiful choice for a summer wedding moving towards the end of the season, offering warmth without feeling too traditionally autumnal and led to a Romantic Summer Wedding at Notley Abbey.

Against the historic surroundings of Notley Abbey, the colour palette felt particularly fitting. The combination created a timeless look while still allowing Luke and Hannah's own style to shine through.

I always think the most memorable wedding styling is the kind that feels personal to the couple. It's not about following every trend, but about choosing details that reflect the atmosphere you want to create and the way you want your wedding to feel.

And when all those details come together in a setting as beautiful as Notley Abbey, it makes for a wonderful backdrop to the photographs.

Romantic Wedding Portraits at Notley Abbey

One of my favourite parts of any wedding day is taking a little time away from the celebrations for couple portraits.

After all the excitement, it's often the first chance newlyweds get to pause, take a breath and spend a few moments together as a married couple.

My approach to portraits is always relaxed and natural. You don't need to know how to pose, and you certainly don't need to feel confident in front of the camera. I'll gently guide you throughout, giving you simple prompts and allowing you to interact naturally rather than asking you to stand perfectly still and smile.

The aim is to create photographs that feel like you.

Notley Abbey provides such a beautiful setting for these moments, with its historic architecture and elegant surroundings offering a timeless backdrop for romantic portraits.

I also believe it's important not to disappear for too long. Your wedding day goes by so quickly, and I want you to spend as much of it as possible enjoying the people who have come to celebrate with you.

A little time for portraits is all we need to create something special while allowing you to return to your guests and enjoy the rest of your day.

Hannah’s Second Dress and Getting Ready for the First Dance

After their portraits, Hannah had another lovely moment planned before the evening celebrations: a change of dress ahead of the first dance.

I absolutely love it when brides choose a second outfit for the evening. It brings a fresh feel to the celebrations and gives the day another little chapter, allowing a bride to enjoy a different look as the party gets underway.

After spending the earlier part of the day in her wedding dress, Hannah changed into her evening outfit, ready to celebrate with Luke and their guests.

It's also a lovely detail to include in the wedding gallery. The photographs tell the story of the day evolving, from the anticipation of the morning and the elegance of the bridal look to the excitement of getting ready for the evening.

And, of course, it all leads towards one of the most memorable moments of the day: the first dance.

There's something wonderful about that transition. The formalities give way to the celebrations, the nerves have settled and the couple can simply enjoy being together, surrounded by their favourite people.

For me, these details are exactly why documenting a wedding from beginning to end is so worthwhile. They might seem like small moments at the time, but they're all part of what makes the day yours.

The Little Moments That Tell the Biggest Story

While the beautiful venue, thoughtful styling and couple portraits are all important parts of a wedding gallery, it's often the in-between moments that become the most treasured.

The hugs, the laughter, the little glances and the interactions that happen when nobody is thinking about the camera.

These are the moments I always look out for.

My approach to wedding photography is all about allowing the day to unfold naturally. I want you to be present, to enjoy your wedding and to spend time with the people you love, knowing that the story is being documented along the way.

I'll offer gentle guidance when you need it, particularly for portraits and family photographs, but otherwise I'll quietly capture the genuine moments as they happen.

Because when you look back at your photographs in years to come, I want you to remember more than what everything looked like. I want you to remember the atmosphere, the emotions and how it felt to be surrounded by everyone who mattered to you.

That's what makes a wedding gallery truly personal.

Why Notley Abbey Is Such a Beautiful Wedding Venue

Notley Abbey is a wonderful choice for couples looking for a wedding venue with historic character and a timeless feel.

Its distinctive architecture and beautiful surroundings offer plenty of opportunities for varied wedding photographs, from elegant couple portraits to the candid moments that happen throughout the day.

One of the things I love about photographing weddings in venues like Notley Abbey is that the setting provides a beautiful backdrop without needing to become the main focus.

The photographs should always be about the couple, their relationships and the memories they're creating. The venue simply becomes part of that story.

For Luke and Hannah, Notley Abbey was the setting for a day that brought together their own style, their burnt orange colour palette and the people closest to them.

And that's what I love most about wedding photography: every couple takes the same venue and makes it completely their own.
